DEEP OSCILLATION®

DEEP OSCILLATION®

We have found DEEP OSCILLATION® is being used more and more as a pain relief for muscle pain, inflammation, stiffness, arthritis...

What is DEEP OSCILLATION®?

DEEP OSCILLATION® is an electromechanical therapeutic procedure using resonant vibration of the tissue with DEEP OSCILLATION® equipment from Physiomed, the unique design makes it possible, using electrostatic attraction and friction, "to produce mechanical vibrations in treated tissues of the body, not only at the skin on the surface but also in deeper tissues" (Brenke and Siems 1996). (Brenke and Siems 1996). Schönfelder and Berg (1991) refer to a "penetrating vibration and pumping effect deep into the tissue". The frequency can be varied in the range from 5-250 Hz.

What happens during DEEP OSCILLATION® treatment?

You will first have a consultation with me where you will have the opportunity to discuss the reason for your visit and highlight the areas you are hoping to improve.

At this stage I will talk through the contraindications to ascertain that none of them apply. For the treatment itself you will usually be lying down to enable easy application. Firstly, via hygienic, vinyl gloved hands; utilising all normal massage movements to the area to be massaged using DEEP OSCILLATION®. The pleasant vibrating sensation that you will feel throughout the treatment is very relaxing.

In action of treatment, pulsed electrostatic attractions draw the tissue to the applicator/gloved hand and release it at the rhythm of the chosen frequency. I will set the pressure gradient, the acceleration and direction of the movements. The treatment procedure is characterised by minimal exterior mechanical effects, which allows it to be used in cases of severe pain, fresh injuries and in the treating of wounds.

Why choose DEEP OSCILLATION®?

Many pilot studies have shown pain reduction, minimisation of oedema and anti-fibrotic results. It is commonly used for the treatment of Lymphoedema (Jahr, S., Schoppe, B. and Reißhauer A. (2008) Effect of treatment with low intensity and extremely low frequency electrostatic fields (Deep Oscillation®) on breast tissue and pain in patients with secondary breast lymphoedema. J. Rehabil. Med. 40, 645-650).

The DEEP OSCILLATION® system, above all, has effects on the micro-circulation of the interstitial connective tissue. Treatment results in a normalisation of the steady state, ie, of the long lasting fluid flow between tissues surrounding the cells and the lymph and blood vessels. In this manner, pain can be lessened and the circulus sanus be restarted or more accelerated.

Also I have been using DEEP OSCILLATION® to help alleviate stiffness, inflammation, muscle pain, swelling, etc...

Clinically proven effects

  • Good pain-alleviating potential. This pertains to acute traumatic as well as to chronic pain conditions?
  • Anti-inflammatory effect?
  • Prevention and reduction of secondary and primary lymphoedema
  • Prevention of fibrotic remodelling procedures, reduction of fibrosis
  • Muscle relaxation, promotion of physical activity, mobilisation
  • Support of wound healing processes
  • Normalisation of haemodynamic parameters of skin, correction of aesthetic-neurotic problems and influence on natural ageing through preventive effects on premature ageing

DEEP OSCILLATION®

  • Intermitted, electrostatic, electromechanical.
  • Attracting and releasing the tissue layers from 5-250 times a second.
  • No heat, no electrical stimulation, safe over implanted plates and pins.
  • Applicable right after injury and day one post operatively.
  • Significantly reduces pain, inflammation, swelling and bruising.
  • The break down of stubborn fibrosis and scar tissue
  • Boosting the bodies natural healing processes.
  • Promoting a dynamic injury healing.

A combined DEEP OSCILLATION® and Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture treatment?

In a session lasting about an hour, very fine sterile needles are inserted at specific acupuncture points on the face to manipulate the body's energy (QI), boosts the circulation, helps the lymphatic system drain away toxins and stimulate production of new collagen. Needles are placed strategically to tighten sagging muscles at the jaw, neck and smile lines.
Additional acupuncture needles are also placed in the hands and feet to balance the effect on the head.
With pressure points stimulating the body's healing energies and increasing blood flow, the skin automatically tightens and becomes smoother in appearance. Fine lines may be erased, deeper lines reduced and bags around the eyes, and neck firmed.

In order to attain desired effects, a course of 10-15 weekly sessions is required. After completing a course of treatment, maintenance sessions can prolong results.

Effectiveness of DEEP OSCILLATION® for bags under the eyes and dark circles

Eur J Dermatol. 2013 Jan-Feb;23(1):59-63. doi: 10.1684/ejd.2012.1904. Authors: Boisnic S1, Branchet MC. Source: NCBI

Effective, non-invasive methods of treating bags and dark circles under the eye have been very limited in the past. However, there are massive demand and high expectations from affected patients. Within the scope of their development work on DEEP OSCILLATION® therapy the positive effects to the skin tissue of which have already been proved in detail, Physiomed has designed specific applications to take these needs into account. In two clinical studies recently executed in France by the GREDECO Dermatology & Cosmetology Research and Evaluation Group under the direction of Dr Sylvie Boisnic (Dermatologist), the clear advantages and effectiveness of DEEP OSCILLATION® were proven for these indications.
Anti-inflammatory and draining effect of the Deep Oscillation® device tested clinically and on a model of human skin maintained in survival condition. The objective of this study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory, toning and draining effect of the Deep Oscillation® device. The Deep Oscillation® device uses the forces of pulsed electrostatic attraction and friction to provoke oscillations that act on the epidermis, dermis, and sub-cutaneous layers of tissue. An ex-vivo study was first completed by using a model of skin maintained in survival condition. The draining and anti-inflammatory effects of the device were determined by pro-inflammatory cytokine assay and by histological analysis of capillary dilation. The analgesic effectiveness of the Deep Oscillation® was then evaluated by immunohistochemical analysis of TRPV1. To corroborate this data, a clinical study was conducted by selecting 20 subjects with periorbital bags or dark circles to undergo treatment with the device. Evaluations included photography, dermatological scores as well as ultrasound analysis. Using an ex-vivo model of human skin maintained in survival condition, the Deep Oscillation® device was effective in reducing inflammation with a significant reduction of dilated capillaries and IL8, while lowering sensory receptor levels. Clinically, the device was successful in reducing both dark circles and bags by an average of 40%.

DEEP OSCILLATION®, developed by Physiomed Elektromedizin in Germany is an internationally patented therapeutic design which utilizes the forces of pulsed electrostatic attraction and friction to provoke oscillations, which act deeply on the tissues of the body from the epidermis down through the conjunctive and adipose layers and into the muscles. Hernandez Tapanes et al (2010) were able to prove, by diagnostic ultrasound, penetration of the oscillations up to an 8cm depth (see diagram). Observed physiological effects of the therapy include oedema resorption - Jahr S Et Al (2008) The therapy also limits the production of inflammatory mediators, especially during the treatment for chronic pain and more so during the treatment of fibromyalgia - Janik, H. et al (2010) strengthening of the cutaneous tissues - Korkina Et Al (2007), stimulation of the wound healing process Mikhalchik E, Et Al (2005), Trybulski R (2008).
